Frequently asked questions
Is El Niño Games free?
Yes. Every game is free to play. The site is supported by advertising, and there are no paid features or in-app purchases.
Do I need an account?
No. You can play almost everything as a guest, with progress saved on your device. Signing in with Google is optional — it syncs your saves across devices, puts you on the leaderboards, and lets you play Amigos multiplayer leagues.
Are these official games?
No. They are independent, unofficial fan games and are not affiliated with any club, league, federation or competition. Player names and stats are used descriptively; we use no official logos, kits or images.
Where do the player ratings come from?
Ratings are our own values, derived from public performance data and normalised across eras so players from different decades can be compared fairly. They're estimates for a game, not official figures.
How does the match engine decide results?
It isn't a simple ratings comparison. Your eleven becomes attack, midfield and defence strengths from player attributes, adjusted by tactics, chemistry, fitness, form and home advantage. The midfield battle sets possession; the attack-versus-defence balance produces the goals.
How does Amigos multiplayer work?
You and your friends each draft a squad on the same budget and lock it in; a full home-and-away season is then resolved deterministically, so everyone sees the identical table. Leagues can be one season, a set number, or run forever, with transfer windows and player retirements between seasons.
Can I play offline?
Yes — after your first visit the site works offline as an installable web app (PWA). Multiplayer leagues and leaderboards need a connection.
Is my data safe, and can I remove it?
Game saves live on your device. If you sign in, your synced saves and stats are stored against your account and protected so only you can change them. You can clear local data from your browser at any time, and reopen your cookie choices from the footer.
What do the Pesos in Amigos do?
Pesos are a free, in-game currency for registered players. You earn them by finishing seasons and can stake them on your own result before a season locks in. They have no real-world value and cannot be bought.
