About El Niño Games

El Niño Games is a small, independent collection of free football games you can play in your browser — no download, no account required. There are two kinds: quick "guess the squad" puzzles where you name a real team from its line-up one clue at a time, and deeper "draft and manage" games where you build a squad and play out a full season against a simulated league or against your friends.

Every game runs on the same in-house match engine and the same hand-derived player ratings, so a striker who is lethal in one game behaves the same way in another. Your progress is saved on your device, and you can optionally sign in to sync across devices and appear on the global leaderboards.

What El Niño Games is

El Niño Games is an independent, ad-supported collection of free football games made by a small team of fans. Everything runs in your browser — there's nothing to install, and you can play most of it without an account.

We build two kinds of game: fast "guess the squad" puzzles, and deeper "draft and manage" games where you build a team and play a full season, solo or against friends.

How the games work

All of the management games share one match engine. Rather than comparing two overall ratings, the engine turns each eleven into attack, midfield and defence strengths built from individual player attributes, then adjusts for formation, squad chemistry, fitness, recent form and home advantage. The midfield battle sets possession; the balance between one side's attack and the other's defence produces the chances and goals.

Player ratings are our own derived values, computed from public performance data and normalised across eras so that players from different decades can be compared fairly. They are estimates for the purpose of a game, not official figures.

Accounts, saving and privacy

Your game progress is stored locally on your device, which needs no consent and works offline after your first visit. You can optionally sign in with Google to sync across devices, appear on the leaderboards, and play the Amigos multiplayer leagues.

We use Google Analytics for anonymous, aggregate usage statistics, and the site is supported by Google AdSense advertising. In regions that require it, analytics stays off until you choose to allow it, and you can change your choice at any time from the footer.

Fair use and affiliation

These are unofficial fan games. They are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any club, league, federation or competition. Player names and statistics are used descriptively to identify real footballers; ratings are our own derived values. No official logos, kits or images are used.

If you represent a rights-holder and have a concern about anything on the site, please get in touch via our X (Twitter) account, linked in the footer, and we'll respond promptly.
